Potluck Supper at the Chicago Honey Coop
Record numbers showed up despite the wicked weather for our Third Annual Sweet Summer Solstice Potluck Supper at the Chicago Honey Coop on June 19th. A beautiful salmon was donated and smoked by Plitt Seafood (www.plittcompany.com.) and served with a tasty tapenade and sour cream and lemon by chef Lissa Levy. Goose Island Brewery (www.gooseisland.com.) donated beer and soda, Italian Superior Bakery(www.italiansuperiorbakery.com.) donated bread. We were graced by the sounds of acoustic guitarist Neil Dixon Smith (www.neildixonsmith.com)
Thank you to everyone who came out that night knowing fully well what the weather report was. Proceeds from the event benefit The Chicago Honey Coop and Slow Food Chicago. The Chicago Honey Coop is an urban apiary dedicated to sustainable agricultural practices. This West Side bee farm houses about 100 chemical-free hives that produce organic products: jars of honey, candles, moisturizing bars, lip balm, and a honey-sugar body scrub. You can purchase their products at www.chicagohoneycoop.com as well as local farmers markets.
