April 20, 2013
We had high hopes in March, but the frigid weather kept us out of the garden. No mind! We’re ready to start the growing season at the PreSERVE Garden this month instead. Come out on Saturday, April 20, to get some fresh spring air in your lungs and get the ground ready for planting. Work takes place from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Feel free to come late or leave early. The garden is located at 12th Place and Central Park Ave. in North Lawndale.
We’re using a great site, Volunteer Spot, to organize our volunteers. It’s free and easy to register, so please sign up by clicking here to let us know you are coming. If you have any questions, email email@example.com.

Please join us as we celebrate our successes from 2012, share our plans for 2013, and enjoy the company of our Slow Food Chicago chapter while eating and learning about the people who make good, clean, fair food possible every day.
Stop by for a snack, and stay for a chat! We are delighted to gather around the table with chef Tom Leavitt, Scrumptious Pantry, ROC-Chicago, Growing Power, Radical Root Farm,Pastoral Artisan Cheese, Spence Farm, Chicago Honey Co-op, Smoking Goose, and North Shore Distillery, many of whom will share delicious treats with us for the afternoon. Get to know these great local vendors by sampling their products in a casual, farmer’s market-type atmosphere.

Update: want to see what we did? Check it out…
Join Slow Food Chicago and Spence Farm on Sunday, March 3 for a work day as we help with the maple syrup harvest. Spence Farm is the oldest family farm in Livingston County, Illinois, settled in 1830. Slow Food Chicago members will assist farmers Will, Kris, and Marty in all things having to do with maple syrup production.
We’ll be getting dirty here, folks, and doing chores like tramping through the mud, hauling firewood, moving heavy buckets, and more. You must be in excellent physical condition. Attendees should dress appropriately for cold or warm weather, and for rainy or dry conditions. Bring boots and a sack lunch. We will work rain or shine.
The event is limited to 12 people. Click here to register!
