Growing Power, Inc. is a non-profit land trust which supports people from diverse backgrounds and the environment in which they live by helping to provide equal access to healthy, high-quality, safe and affordable food.  They provide hands-on training, on-the-ground demonstration, social outreach, and technical assistance through the development of Community Food Systems that help people grow, process, market and distribute food sustainably.  Will Allen heads the main operation of Growing Power in Milwaukee, while daughter Erika Allen manages the Chicago branch.  For years she has maintained the vegetable garden in Grant Park, downtown Chicago.

In October 2008, Erika represented Slow Food Chicago as a delegate to the Terra Madre Congress in Turin, Italy.
