Join us for the second book club meeting of 2016! We will be reading Silent Spring by Rachel Carson. First published as excerpts in the New Yorker in 1962, Rachel Carson's now historic text became known for it's influential activism - resulting in the banning of DDT as well as spurring revolutionary changes to environmental law. Today, we are still having many of the conversations posed by Carson in this novel - primarily, how do we undo the damage that has already been done by our overuse of pesticides and insecticides while still ensuring that our planet is a safe and flourishing place to live for generations to come? Continue the conversation with us as we discuss this life-altering book.
Many of our board members have started this book, but never finished. It can be a difficult one to get though. Let's do this - together!! This month's book club will be held in the Pilsen neighborhood at Verdant Matter on 18th street. If you are able, please feel free to bring a snack or drink to share with the group. Come chat with us amongst the plants at Pilsen resident and owner/artist/potter Kelly Doodeman's adorable plant and ceramics shop! :) See you at the end of April!
