March Food Book Club

  • Native Foods Cafe 1484 North Milwaukee Avenue Chicago, IL, 60622 United States

Food as beauty + skin care? We all know what we eat can have an affect on our skin health (even if we don't always want to admit it) - but have you ever considered using the foods you eat as part of a natural skin-care regiment? Author Adina Grigore is the founder of S.W. Basics (a natural skin care company) and brings her book, Skin Cleanse : The Simple, All-Natural Program for Clear, Calm, Happy Skin to audiences looking for a cleaner (and greener) approach to the care of the body's largest organ - your skin. (Homemade Bloody Mary mix as a facial toner? Coarse sugar as a body scrub? An avocado skin mask? Yes, please!) Join us at Native Foods in Wicker Park (the too good to be true vegan cafe) for a discussion of "slow" living as it relates to overall skin health.

Slow Food Chicago Board Member (and owner of Radical Root Organic Farm), Alison Parker will join us for an on-site salt scrub demonstration. If you'd like to take some home with you - we encourage you to BYOJ (bring your own jar)!

Light appetizers will be provided. Additional food/drink will be available for purchase from Native Foods Cafe.

Please note : as Native Foods is a fully functioning restaurant and they are graciously allowing us to take over part of their space for our meeting - we do have somewhat limited availability for seats. If you are interested in attending, PLEASE RSVP IN ADVANCE by emailing Katie at katie.johnson@slowfoodchicago.org (with the subject "Skin Cleanse") so we know to expect you. If you show up the night of without RSVPing in advance - know that we will do our best to accommodate you, but that seating may be limited.
